Times are Changing!

Today, Random House announced the availability of certain free titles for download on the iPhone application, Stanza. Pan Macmillan also offers sample tasters of hit titles.

According to the Director of Marketing over at RH, “Stanza has clearly tapped into an audience that’s hungry for content, and we’re happy to modify our traditional marketing methods to make use of the new technology available to readers today.”

I say: Smart move. Times change, and we have to keep up. Let’s see if any of the other houses follow suit.

Perusing apps for the iPhone is kind of boring for me, mostly because I don’t really see the need to spend any more money on a $200 device plus phone/data plan. However, I found a very exciting FREE app called Stanza that allows you to read books on your iPod Touch or iPhone. It sure beats buying a Sony Reader!

There is a selection of free books already on it (classics) and you can even add files from your own computer. To do that you need to download the desktop version of Stanza also and set your computer and iPhone to share. It supports MS Word, html, Rich Text, PDF, and many, many more.

I just discovered it so other than the sheer excitement value I don’t have a real review for how well it works, although other users seem pleased with it.
